This course has taught me a lot about the Harlem Ranaissance. I hesitated to take the course because I really had no idea what it would be about. However, I'm glad that I did choose to thatke the course. I have learned a lot and have gained an entirely new perspective.
I think that all to often African Americans are viewed using the sterotyped. They are viewd as lazy and uneducated, etc. I think that the Harlem Renaissance really proves those steroetypes wrong. Just look at all the literature, art, and music that came out of the Renaissance. How can we say that these people are lazy and uneducated when we have seen firthand through our study of certian literary pieces that these stereoypes are clearly untrue. I think we study the Harlem Renaissance to remind ourselves and share with others the amazing contrubutions African Americans have made and hopefully by doing this we can ease the racial divide and lessen the discrimination faced by these people.

I agree, studying the Harlem Renaissance does remind us of the contributions that African Americans have made over the years. These contributions clearly show African Americans can over come the typical stereotypes that were made against them.
I think that they harlem renaissance really did do a tremendous amount of good in combating those stereotypes. Theyre valuable pieces of art now and can still be used to ease the racial divide as you stated.
Although I hate to admit it, I went into this course with some of the stereotypes of African Americans fresh in my mind. It was not until we read the literature and viewed the artwork that my impressions were redirected. Now I am able to see that the stereotypes made against African Americans are just that- stereotypes.
I agree that studying the harlem renaissance was interesting. the things that the african americans had to overcome shows in all the writing that we have read. I think it also shows how they get stick together to overcome struggles. The harlem renaissance was a strong time in history for the african americans.
